On account of the outstanding success of the five-day Artisan Design Fair 2018 (ADF), which was held at the Cairo Convention Centre under the auspices of the Ministry of Social Solidarity, the fair was extended an extra day by Social Solidarity Minister Ghada Wali.
ADF was organised jointly by the Ministry of Social Solidarity and the Egyptian Exporters Association Expolink. It is among the most significant initiatives taken by the Ministry to support traditional handcrafters by offering them the opportunity to market traditional products that have gained added value through modern design. This is achieved by bringing together young artisans and modern designers, promoting thus creativity in the traditional handcrafts market, and qualifying the products for higher-level trade and export
More than 120 artisans from all over Egypt displayed their products at the fair. ADF featured a wide selection of handmade products of wood, palm, glass, plastic art, pottery, candles, jewellery, traditional garments, hand woven and embroidered textiles, and home accessories. The goods are the product of workshops and small factories which employ some 135,000 workers.
