The Coptic Orthodox Church has announced that pre-marriage check-ups for couples engaged to be married are now compulsory. Father Abra’am Emil, deputy of the Alexandria Coptic Orthodox Bishopric, told Watani that the check-up includes tests for chronic diseases as well as disorders that might hamper normal marital relations. He explained that the pre-marriage check-up was for many years recommended by the Coptic Church, but has has now become compulsory in order to avoid after-marriage problems.
