At age 77, Anba Theophilos, Bishop of the Red Sea departed our world last night. Pope Tawadros will preside over Anba Theophilos’s funeral service tomorrow, Thursday 14 February, at the Cairo church of al-Boutrossiya in Abbassiya. Another service will be held on Friday at the church of Anba Shenouda in the Red Sea city of Hurghada where Anba Theophilos’s congregation will be able to bid him farewell.
Anba Theophilos graduated from Ain Shams University with a degree in Engineering in 1967, and took orders in 1975. He served in France for six years after he was ordained priest in 1980. He was consecrated Bishop of the Red Sea in 1992 at the hands of Pope Shenouda III, patriarch of the Coptic Orthodox Church from 1971 until 2012.
