Minister of Youth and Sports, Ashraf Sobhy has received this morning representatives of the Miracle Football Team for Amputees. The team coach, Seif Muhammed, and Abdallah Mostafa talked to Mr Sobhy about their wish to participate in tournaments in Africa and the world, and to found a local tournament for amputees.
The Minister welcomed the representatives of the Miracle Team and stressed his confidence in the skills and perseverance of Egypt’s persons with special needs. He lauded the outstanding athletic standard and perseverance of Egyptian Paralympic champions, and promised his guests to direct the Paralympics committee to form a football committee for amputees. The new committee would be in charge of the game and all its intricacies; it would draw a plan and coordinate with the World Amputee Football Federation to look into the possibility of declaring a union for the game. The committee would also work on launching a local tournament and advise players on the technicalities of participating in world tournaments.
Amputee football is played with seven players on each team (six outfield players and one goalkeeper). Outfield players have lower extremity amputations, and goalkeepers have an upper extremity amputation. There are several amputee football associations around the world, including the England Amputee Association and the Irish Amputee Football Association. Each organisation promotes the advancement of the sport and that it gains more recognition.
