The nuns at the Coptic Orthodox Convent of Mar-Girgis (St George) in Sidi Kreir, Alexandria, have been given the Chinese produced COVID-19 vaccine Sinopharm.
According to the Coptic Orthodox Parish in Alexandria, a medical team from the health administration was sent to the Convent. The team was received by Fr Abraam Emil, deputy of Pope Tawadros in Alexandria, and Fr Luka Abdel-Messih who is in charge of the hospitals affiliated to the churches in Alexandria, as well as Tamav Athanasia, the Abbess of the Convent.
The nuns will receive the second dose of the vaccine in three weeks time
Last week, a number of 130 and included Anba Elaryion, Bishop-General of West Alexandria Churches, from the Coptic Orthodox Church in Alexandria have been given the Chinese produced COVID-19 vaccine Sinopharm.
Starting last February, Egypt has been receiving successive shipments of Sinopharm vaccine as donations from China. The most recent was a 300,000- dose shipment that recently arrived at Cairo International Airport.
