In the trial of the Bombing of the Two Saints church in Alexandria on New Year Eve 2011:
On Sunday 5 February an Alexandria court adjourned to 18 March the case filed by the Coptic Orthodox Church against the Prime Minister, Interior Minister, and prosecutor-general, for procrastinating on the investigation of bombing of the Two Saints church in Alexandria on New Year Eve 2011.
Joseph Malak, the lawyer representing the Church’s lawyer requested that Field Marshal Hussein Tantawi; the current Prime Minister Kamal al-Ganzouri, and the current Interior Minister Mohammed Ibrahim should be questioned by the court.
The court responded, and subpoenaed Field Marshall Tantawi in his capacity as head of the Supreme Council for Armed Forces and acting President in charge of State affairs during the transitional period Egypt is undergoing. In the case Tantawi does not show up in the court, Mr Malak noted, the court would fine him for obstructing justice.
The bombing of the Two Saints church had left some 24 dead and 80 injured. Even though investigations into the crime had begun directly, they were interrupted by the eruption of the 25 January 2011 Revolution. They were not resumed, even though the previous Cabinet of Essam Sharaf had promised they would be.
