As we suffer the consequences of the global strife gripping the world throughout the last three years or more, be that in Ukraine, Gaza, Southeast Asia, or other spots; we anxiously and warily wait for the results of the US presidential election set to take place next November. The American people should then have their say on who occupies the White House during the period from 2025 to 2029.
Sadly, I must admit that global interest in the results of the 2024 US presidential election reflects no faith in the supremacy of the sublime principles laid by the US Founding Fathers a few centuries ago to act as guidelines for US leaders and people. These principles and values were upheld by US presidents and administrations in the past but, lamentably, they no longer hold ever since the US became the single pole hegemonising dominion over the world. Prior to that, the world was governed by multipolar or bipolar superpowers, leading to balance in strategic and political interests. Once there was a single superpower however, that superpower exercised its authority with arrogance and belligerence to manipulate the course of events across the world.
No wonder then that US presidential elections foster worldwide interest. Everyone the world over is concerned about whether the incumbent President would win a second term, or a new president would be elected. This is bound to lead either to a persistence in prevalent international policies or to new policies; in both cases it affects the whole world. Currently, all eyes are on the two presidential candidates: current president Joe Biden and former president Donald Trump.
Noteworthy is that the US constitution stipulates that a President can be elected to a maximum eight-year period divided into two four-year terms. Hence, US presidents have fallen into one of three categories: presidents who were in office for one four-year term; those who stayed in office eight years for two successive four-year terms; and those in office for eight years during two non-consecutive four-year terms.
The upcoming US presidential election features two candidates who are each vying for a second four-year presidential term: the Republican Party’s Donald Trump who was the 45th US President during 2017 – 2021; and Joe Biden, 46th US President in 2021 – 2025.
The issue I raise today is not about who of the two US presidential candidates wins. Rather, it is about the confounding question of the presidential race being confined to the two of them despite their huge respective failures on the home and international fronts; also the heated controversy surrounding their moral worthiness of leading the US and the world. As far as Mr Trump is concerned, the world cannot forget his “America First” policy which led to international policies that fostered disputes, divisions, even wars, as his belligerent policies alienated both friend and foe. The economic, political, and military discord he sowed on the global front wreaked havoc with numerous agreements and treaties, and generated some substantial comfort when he lost his bid for a second presidential term to Joe Biden. As to Mr Biden, numerous objections are raised as to his eligibility for a second presidential term, not least being his age, mental ability, or political prowess. I do not have the space here to cite the innumerable incidents of failure, blundering, or stumbling over words attributed to his performance, all of which threw doubts over his ability to conduct his leadership role appropriately, given the sensitive international responsibility he carries. To say nothing of the innumerable decisions taken by his administration regarding international affairs, that reflected US appetite for fostering regional and global conflict, taking sides with specific States, applying double standards that lay waste to international law and humanitarian values, and screams the need to move from a mono-polar superpower to a multipolar world.
Given the above deplorable facts regarding US presidential election, I have a few serious queries:
- Why is the US presidential race being contested by only two candidates each of whom is by far more ineligible than eligible for the top world leadership job?
- Why have both the Republicans and the Democrats failed to come up with new faces capable of running the presidential race and redirecting America’s local and international policy?
- Is the US, with its 342 million strong population incapable of producing hundreds of potential candidates for the presidency through its two major parties or through any other relevant political entities?
- Do not these facts expose a shocking political disastrous situation that drives American voters to apathy as to who may become president or whether any horrifying power may bring to the presidency some candidate who would allow them to hold the reins of the country, and the world, under his cover? Major among such powers would be the Zionist lobby and the new player: the ‘warlord council’?
