Minya Governor, General Essam Bedeiwi, is studying an application by Anba Athanasius, Bishop of Beni-Mazar and Bahnassa, to establish a church in the name of the 28 Coptic martyrs killed in May 2017 by Islamic terrorists, while on a pilgrimage to the monastery of Anba Samuel (St Samuel the Confessor) in the Western Desert in Minya.
The official Facebook page of the Coptic Orthodox Diocese of Beni-Mazar mentioned that the Bishop had met the Governor who welcomed the idea and asked that the Church should submit the required papers, among them the ownership documents of the land on which the church would be built. He promised he would do his best for the projected church to see light.
