The new pope has been offered sets of vestments for his enthronement as gifts from embroidery workshops of several convents and churches in Cairo. The new pope’s secretary Father Angaelos said that, among others, the sets came from Abu-Sefein (St Mercurius) convent in Old Cairo, Mar-Girgis (St George) convent also in Old Cairo, and the Mar-Morqos (St Mark) workshop in Shubral-Kheima.
“The gifts are tokens of love, and a desire to partake in the celebration of the new pope,” Fr Angaelos told Watani.  Anba Tawadros II, he said, will be using pieces from all the sets, in gratitude.
