Pope Tawadros II will resume his weekly Wednesday prayer meeting with the congregation as of Wednesday 12 July which coincides with the Feast of the Apostles Peter and Paul.
The spokesperson of the Coptic Orthodox Church announced that the Pope will hold next Wednesday’s prayer meeting at 6pm in St Mark’s Cathedral in Alexandria.
Pope Tawadros had announced on 5 April 2023 that he was halting his weekly meeting for the duration of the Holy 50 days, the 50 days between the Resurrection and the Pentecost, to resume at the beginning of the Fast of the Apostles that directly follows the Pentecost. However, the Pope felt unwell on Sunday 4 June, following Pentecost Mass which he celebrated at the papal quarters in Ikingi Maryut. Thorough medical examination revealed that he suffered a mild inflammation in the seventh cranial nerve. The doctors recommended rest, in addition to medication and physiotherapy.
Last week, on 3 July, after a month of rest the Pope was back to the papal headquarters in Cairo, with a promise to resume his activity, after he assured his well wishers that he was back to normal.
