The lawyer Tharwat Bekheet criticised yesterday##s arrest of the 25-year-old Albeir Saber Ayad sharing the link of the film that disdains the Prophet Mohamed on his facebook account
Bekheet said that Ayad##s home in Marg, Northeast Cairo, had been surrounded by a crowd of hardline Muslims who threatened to attack the Ayads. They dispersed upon the arrival of the police who caught the young man. Police investigations are ongoing.
“There is general apprehension among the Copts that the film incident would be used as a prerogative to target Copts with false claims of deriding Islam. Several incidents have occurred earlier this year in which Copts were caught or sentenced upon shaky evidence for disdaining Islam. Two men from Assiut, Makarem Diab and Gamal Massoud are now imprisoned, and Bishoiy Kameel from Sohag, Upper Egypt is currently standing trial,” Bekheet said.
Bekheet called for a halt to the targeting Copts to appease Islamists.
