Father Hani Bakhoum, secretary of the Patriarch of the Coptic Catholic Church Anba Antonius Nagib, told Watani that members of the Patriarchs and Bishops Council of the Catholic Church totally denounce all forms of disdain to religious symbols, a practice that contradicts the teachings of the Holy Bible which advocates love and respect for all.
Members of the Patriarchs and Bishops Council of the Catholic Church in Egypt issued a statement where it reminded that the Second Vatican Ecumenical Council which was held 50 years ago, had dedicated a document to the relation between the Church and the non Christian religions. According to the statement issued by the Catholic Church the Vatican Ecumenical Council had singled Islam a distinctive position in its document.
The statement issued by the Catholic Church read: “The Church looks highly to the Muslims who adore the One God Almighty, the Compassionate, the Great, the Creator of heaven and earth…”. In its statement, the Catholic Church called on all parties to forget the past and to strive to achieve understanding, solidarity and cooperation in order to preserve common values.
