With his photograph Subsidised Bread—A Challenge Dany Eid from Egypt won the grand prize of the Canon photography competition for the Middle East, the topic of which was “Celebrating Cultures: How Do You See Your World?”. Sharing the first place in the competition were Moroccan photographer Mustapha Meskine for his Fantasia des couleurs and UAE photographer Danilo Aquino for his An Emirati Supper. Participating in the competition were some 1200 entries from 13 Middle Eastern countries. “We were impressed with the overall high standard of photography across the region and were amazed at the depth of talent that exists,” Hendrik Verbrugghe, CCI Marketing Manager of Canon Middle East, said.
A total of 13 winners won a state of the art DSLR Canon camera—the EOS 1000 D, while the three grand prize winners each won an all-expense paid trip to attend a Gulf Photo Plus workshop in Dubai during the month of April 2009.
