The Wildlife Protection Department of the Ministry of Environment has thwarted an attempt to sell two Macau parrots that had been smuggled into Egypt from South Africa. The parrots were reported to have been offered for sale in a pet shop in the satellite town of New Cairo.
According to the Ministry of Environment, the two parrots belong to an endangered species, so trafficking them violates the Egyptian and international law.
After completing official procedures in coordination with the police, the Ministry’s Wildlife Protection Department examined the parrots and handed them over to the Giza Zoo.
