“Days of Indian culture in Egypt”, an exhibition of contemporary Indian art held in Cairo last week by Lalit Kala Akademi and the Maulana Azad Centre for Indian Culture in Cairo in cooperation with the Culture Ministry, presented the works of some 25 young Indian artists. Under the theme “To opt is to commit” the artists, who come from different parts of India, treated Cairo spectators to a variety of paintings, water colours, installations, wool and cotton woven works, and ceramic art works. Lalit Kala Academi is the principal Indian national establishment of culture, and focuses—among other activities—on visual arts including painting, sculpture, graphics, photography, and ceramics. It was established by the first Indian prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru.
