“Sofret Masr – A Taste of Egypt” is the title of a gastronomical digital journey launched by Google Arts and Culture: https://artsandculture.google.com/project/taste-of-egypt
The digital project is launched under the patronage of Egypt’s Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, in collaboration with Rawi Magazine: an annual publication that highlights Egyptian history and art, and Nawaya, a community-based network that promotes Egyptian heritage food systems.
The online project chronicles the culture, dishes and places of Egypt’s culinary heritage from Ancient Egyptian to modern-day cuisine.
The project, which is currently available in English and Arabic, includes over 1700 high-resolution photographs, more than 60 expertly-curated stories and 30 videos that provide a detailed and immersive digital experience of the cuisine of Egyptian families from the Mediterranean coast in the north, the Nile Valley along the length of Egypt, to the Red Sea in the east. It deep dives into Egypt’s culinary history and the influence of different cultures, including the Greek, Ottoman and Asian on modern day cuisine.
Sofret Masr is Google Arts & Culture’s latest project aimed at helping more people around the world discover the many facets of Egyptian culture and heritage in collaboration with local partners.
