A recent meeting between al-Helaly al-Sherbini, Egypt’s Minister of Education, German MP Alexander Radwan; and Nora Selim, Executive Manager of the Sawiris Foundation to review the ways of cooperation in the projects related to improving the educational process in Egypt.
Sherbini talked of the importance of German-Egyptian relations, especially in the field of technical education and teacher training. He pointed out the already existing cooperation between Egypt and Germany through the German aid agency GIZ and KFW Development Bank; also cooperation with the German company Siemens through providing scholarships in Germany for Egyptian graduates of technical education, as well as cooperation with the Goethe-Institut in educational projects including the training of teachers, educational leaders, and the development of the German language curriculum.
Radwan expressed full readiness of the German authorities to provide the support needed for the development of the educational process in Egypt.
During the meeting, it was agreed to restore and renovate the Shatby industrial school in Alexandria in cooperation between the Ministry of Education and the German side and Sawiris Foundation. The parties discussed various ways of cooperation to train teachers, whether by sending missions to train in Germany, or by bringing German experts to Egypt; and the development of science and mathematics curricula in the frame of the German experience in this field.
The meeting also tackled how to make use of the German experience in the development of the agricultural technical schools, as the minister pointed out that there are 160,000 students studying in these schools in Egypt, and that the ministry is seeking to train teachers and students on how to start small projects.
