For the second year in succession, the city of Damietta (Dumyat) on the northern tip of the eastern branch of the Nile Delta has hosted the international exhibition for wood industry and technology “Wood-Tech”. The exhibition was held at the covered sports hall in the close-by resort of Ras al-Barr. Wood-Tech, held from 11 to 13 November, witnessed the participation of 53 countries from across the world; among them Germany, Italy, and Greece.
The three-day event featured seminars, presentations, and case studies by prominent speakers from international institutes and organisations concerned with the wood industry. Topics discussed included innovation in the wood processing sector and new materials, modern furniture production processes, new sales and marketing methods in accessing new markets, market research on global furniture trends, and modern design. The exhibition showcased new technologies and trends in furniture design and machinery by some of the most important industry stakeholders worldwide.
Damietta is the mainstay of furniture industry in Egypt, covering more than 72 per cent of the country’s furniture production. A new 1,400,000sq.m. Damietta Furniture City, funded by the government and local authorities, is already under construction and, when complete, will upgrade Damietta into one of the major specialised industrial zones for furniture in the Middle East.
