The Egyptian Beit al-Aila, literally ‘Family Home’, today issued a statement cautioning individuals against dealing with the so-called Global Union of the Egyptian Beit al-Aila outside Egypt. The statement stressed that the Egyptian Beit al-Aila had nothing to do with the ‘Global Union’.
The statement said that the Global Union had no involvement with the protocol signed between Beit al-Aila and the Egyptian Ministry of Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates to establish branches of Beit al-Aila outside Egypt.
Beit al-Aila is a quasi-governmental entity headed by Pope Tawadros II and the Grand Imam of al-Azhar, Sheikh Ahmad al-Tayyeb, and including as members representatives of Muslim and Coptic clergy and laymen. It was established in 2011 with the aim of supporting national unity and aborting attempts at sectarian sedition in Egypt.
