Following Holy Mass at the church of Mar-Girgis (St George) in the east Cairo district of Manshiyet al-Sadr
Following Holy Mass at the church of Mar-Girgis (St George) in the east Cairo district of Manshiyet al-Sadr, and as worshippers were leaving church, a passer directed a volley of verbal abuse at them, along the line: “You apostates, we’ll kill you and rid the country of you.”
A Coptic woman, Nadia Helmi Lawandi, 54, asked him why he was insulting them in this way, he insulted her even more viciously.
Father Bishoi Baseet told Watani that, at this point a young Coptic man asked the abuser to treat the lady with respect, at which the abuser got out a knife and a wooden piece, and chased the young Copt who quickly ran away him. When he couldn’t catch him, the abuser returned and stabbed Lawandi to death, then continuously hit her with his wooden bloc.
The crowd who witnessed the incident caught the culprit and dragged him to the nearest police station and filed a proceeding. But before even any investigations were conducted, the officers in the police station pronounced the man, whose name and age were not given to reporters, to be mentally disturbed.
