Pope Tawadros II has appointed the monk Father Seraphim al-Suriani his secretary for the affairs of the Copts in the Diaspora
Pope Tawadros II has appointed the monk Father Seraphim al-Suriani his secretary for the affairs of the Copts in the Diaspora.
Fr Seraphim had been among the five—out of 16 candidates—who were short-listed to qualify for the papal elections which brought in three finalists for the altar draw which in turn brought in Pope Tawadros II as the 118th patriarch of the Coptic Orthodox Church. Fr Seraphim has behind him years of credit serving Copts in the Diaspora; he was chosen by Bishop Youssef of the Diocese of the Southern US to serve with him, and is currently serving in churches in the southern US.
The Pope has announced his intention to consecrate bishops to preside over parishes in the Diaspora that had so far been under no bishop but were under the direct care of the late Pope Shenouda III who passed away last March.
