Six Egyptians were aboard the Ethiopian flight ET302 when it crashed Sunday 10 March a few minutes after take off from Addis Ababa. All 149 passengers and eight crew members lost their lives, Ethiopian authorities confirmed, pointing out that the cause of the crash is yet unknown.
The Egyptian Embassy in Addis Ababa is closely following with Ethiopian authorities the procedures relating to retrieval of the bodies of the Egyptian victims from the debris, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced today.
Ambassador Yasser Mahmoud Hashim, deputy to the Minister of Foreign Affairs for consular affairs and Egyptians abroad said that retrieving the bodies could take till the end of the week, following which they would be moved to the Ethiopian capital. He explained that identifying the bodies could take up to three weeks after which they would be flown to Cairo. He said the Egyptian Embassy in Addis Ababa would coordinate with the Ethiopian authorities to issue the death certificates.
