In a first of its kind attempt, Egyptian surfer Sherif Khedr crossed the Gulf of Suez standup paddleboarding, the Ministry of Youth and Sports announced this morning. Mr Khedr surfed 35km, taking off from the South Sinai Ras Sudr coast, and headed to Galala city, which is located between Ain Sukhna and Zaafarana south of Suez. The Gulf of Suez stretches at the northern end of the Red Sea west of the Sinai Peninsula; and is thus considered the boundary between Africa on the east and Asia on the east.
The Ministry of Youth and Sports is looking into organising an annual tournament for water sports, given that Egypt’s geographical dispositions makes it a prime spot for water sports.
