The Coptic Orthodox Church headed by Pope Tawadros II, issued a statement bidding farewell on hope of the Resurrection to Egyptian medical scholar Dr Rashad Barsoum, Professor of Kidney Diseases and Transplantation and Head of the Cairo Center for Kidney Diseases. Dr R. Barsoum founded Cairo University’s Kasr al-Aini Center for Kidney Diseases and Dialysis, and was Chairman of the Central Committee of the Egyptian National Board. Dr R. Barsoum (1941 – 2022) passed away on 25 October.
The Church statement went on to say that the late doctor was winner of numerous local and international awards, among them the “Pope Shenouda’s Award for Wisdom and Sympathy” awarded by the Coptic Orthodox Church.
“We bid him farewell,” the statement said, “following a life journey that was abundant with professional and humanitarian giving, during which he was a role model of patriotism, living in his country to help his people and offer them his extensive medical expertise.
“We remember his love for the Church, and the various services he offered in secret and in public, with the utmost faithfulness, gentleness, and humbleness.
“We believe he is now resting in peace, following his long string of good deeds. Just as the man with the five talents, he hears the Lord saying: ‘Well done, good and faithful servant; you were faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord’.(Matthew 25:21)
“We offer our sincere condolences to Egypt and all the professional organisations he worked with; and especially to his family and friends.”
