Umraniya Public Prosecution in Giza is investigating an attempted murder against a Coptic shop owner who sells alcoholic drinks.
The Copt, Joseph Israil who is in his sixties, was sitting by his shop early in the morning on 28 July when he was approached by Ahmed Muhammad Salah, known as Kamboula, shouting “Allah Akbar”. He took out a knife and stabbed Israil in the neck. Israel fell down, and his son Emil rushed to rescue him but was attacked by Kamboula. The people around attempted to subdue him even though he had another knife. They finally succeeded in catching him and handing him over to the police. The injured were moved to hospital.
Kamboula is in police custody pending investigation. Eyewitnesses have said there was no personal relation between him and Israil, and that he had been praying dawn prayers in the nearby mosque before he attacked.
