The four-day forum of the first group of trainers in the Coptic Orthodox Church’s programme to train 1000 church ++muallim++ (literally ‘teacher’)” has concluded today 28 June 2021. A ++muallim++ in the Coptic Church is the traditional head cantor in every church who teaches youngsters Coptic rituals and melodies. The training programme for 1000 muallims is titled “Renew our Days as of Old … Our Church Heritage is Spirit and Life”.
The trainers forum, which began on 24 June at the Logos Centre in the Western Desert monastery of Wadi al-Natroun some 100km northwest Cairo, was attended by 73 participants who included members of the clergy and male and female church servants from 23 dioceses. These participants had excelled during the three phases of the programme sponsored by Pope Tawadros II to train 1000 Church teachers
Through a number of workshops, the forum focused on the informational skills required of any Church teacher. The participants were then divided into small groups of five to six persons, where they designed projects in which they applied what they learned in the workshops.
Yesterday, Pope Tawadros met the participants and gave them the final lecture in the forum.
Today, he celebrated with them Holy Mass in the Centre’s Transfiguration Church.
