At the Papal Headquarters in Cairo, Pope Tawadros II recently received Randa Shahine, head of the public education sector at Egypt’s Ministry of Education, and head of the executive committee of religious freedoms.
During the meeting, they discussed mutual activities between the Ministry of Education and the Coptic Church, reviewing the project of training 1000 teachers of Christian religion to teach the subject in the Ministry’s schools.
Pope Tawadros presented Dr Shahine with an icon of the Holy Family Flight into Egypt. For her part, she presented him with the Ministry’s shield, saying it was in appreciation of his vital role in supporting the educational process and his sponsorship for religious freedoms.
The meeting was attended by Dr Abdullah Hanna who specialises in teaching Christian religion at the Ministry; the Monk Fr Kyrillos Anba Bishoy, director of the Pope’s office; Fr Boulos Halim, manager of the training sector at the Coptic media centre; and Ms Barbara Soliman, head of projects at the papal office.
