Pope Tawadros has received Anba Macarius, Bishop-General of Minya and Abu-Qurqas, to discuss with him the recent incident at the village of Manshiyet Zaafarana in Minya where the Copts were attacked on 11 January and their only church closed.
The meeting focused on bringing about peace in the village, while upholding the law and ensuring the right of Copts to worship; also the setting up of development projects to serve the residents of Minya and Abu-Qurqas. This last point reflects a sincere wish to treat the roots of the problem, since it is often claimed that sectarianism is rampant in Minya because of the spread of poverty and ignorance.
Attending the meeting were Anba Markos, Coptic Bishop of Shubra-Kheima; and Anba Danial, Coptic Bishop of Maadi and Secretary-General of Coptic Holy Synod.
