“Earth” is the theme title of a solo exhibition by Ahmed Abdalkareem at Picasso Art Gallery in Zamalek, Cairo. It was opened earlier this month and runs till 13 October.
Artworks on display are 50 paintings that represent the earth as a place, time, and essence of history. For the artist, the earth is the origin, source, spirit, and honour; belonging and love.
For Mr Youssef, the Earth is the origin of civilisation in its comprehensive and inclusive concept, forming a significant symbol and subject for an artist who loves humanity and life.
It is the source of prosperity, goodness, and beauty. The Earth is the stage of monumental historical events, the home of the present and the absent, the far and the near.
It can be said that the artist Abdelkareem explores life with the heart of a child, armed with the courage of his Egyptian cultural heritage through modern images and bold adventurous colours, endowing the surface of his paintings with brave ideas that flow lightly without hesitation or fear of the unknown.
Born in 1954, Abdelkareem was raised in the city of Minya, 250km south of Cairo. His artist’s journey was shaped by a deep connection to his rural surroundings.
Following his graduating from the Faculty of Art Education at Helwan University, he lead a remarkable academic path, culminating in a PHD in Art Education from the same institution.
In 1981, he was appointed as a teaching assistant at the Department of Decorative Designs within the Faculty of Art Education at Helwan University. This role allowed him to pass on his wealth of knowledge and expertise to aspiring artists, inspiring the next generation.
