The Arab Contractors, one of the leading construction companies in the Middle East and Africa, has been chosen to earn seven awards at the Middle East Economic Digest International Competition (MEED) in its 13th edition.
Established in 2007, MEED recognises the best-in-class construction, infrastructure, and utility projects in the MENA region. Its prestigious awards honour the best and brightest projects and professionals in the sector, with a focus on innovation, sustainability, and overall impact on society. In association with Mashreq, MEED celebrates “the best that the MENA projects industry offers”. According to their website, “the project’s industry is vital to the MENA region. It creates the infrastructure that improves life, supports the economy, and lays the foundations for future growth. ”
Ahmed El Assar, CEO and Chairman of the Arab Contractors Company (AC), explained that the first award for which AC was selected is in the category of development projects; AC earned it for Egypt for their work in the Maspero Triangle Development Project. The Maspero Triangle, Mr Assar explained, is being implemented by the Ministry of Housing’s New Urban Communities Authority, in cooperation with an elite group of national contracting companies led by AC.
The second award, Mr Assar said, came in the category of road axis projects, where the Lieutenant General Kamal Amer Axis in Giza won the first place in Egypt; it is being implemented by AC in cooperation with other national companies, under the supervision and planning of the Ministry of Housing’s Central Authority for Reconstruction.
The third award is in the category of small projects of less than USD50 million, Mr Assar said. Tahrir Square Development project won first place in Egypt; it was implemented by AC under the supervision of the Ministry of Housing’s New Urban Communities Authority.
The fourth award is in the category of water projects, where the New Delta Water Treatment Plant project won first place in Egypt. It was implemented, Mr Assar said, through a joint venture between AC and other national companies, under the supervision of the Ministry of Irrigation and the Armed Forces Engineering Authority.
Fifth award is in the category of social and educational projects. The Technological Innovation Centre project at Cairo University won first place in Egypt; it was implemented by AC under the supervision of the Ministry of Communications, Mr Assar explained.
Sixth and seventh awards come in the category of construction projects, they involve the New Senate Headquarters project in the New Administrative Capital. It was implemented by the AC, along with Meerad Tower, which won first place in Qatar.
From Egypt, projects implemented by Orascom Construction, Hassan Allam, ENPI, and EDECS also won awards at MEED 2023. The ceremony for the reception of awards is expected to be held later in 2023.
