Over three days: 1, 2 and 3 December, Egyptians living outside Egypt and holders of Egyptian ID cards or passports, cast their ballots in the presidential election 2024.
The balloting was carried out inside Egyptian embassies and consulates. Polling committees were headed by Egypt’s ambassadors or consuls, assisted by members of the diplomatic corps, according to the regulations set by the National Elections Authority (NEA), and under its supervision.
On 4 December, NEA announced that the voting for Egyptian abroad was closed. It declared that the balloting was conducted in 137 electoral centres in 121 countries. Voting cards in Braille were available to make it easier for the visually impaired to cast their ballots.
The vote count in each constituency was made, and the results were sent in sealed envelopes to NEA through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in order for NEA to include the census in the final official total count after balloting in Egypt closes.
Egyptians living in Egypt will cast their ballots over three days on 10, 11 and 12 December, following which the vote count will be made, adding the vote count of Egyptians abroad, and the official result announced.
Four candidates are running for Egypt’s President, including incumbent President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi. The other three are Farid Zahran, head of the opposition Social Democratic Party; Abdel-Sanad Yamama, head of Egypt’s oldest party, the liberal, al-Wafd; and Hazem Omar, head of the People’s Republican Party.
