The Egyptian and the Syrian engineers syndicates signed on 13 February a memorandum of cooperation, at the headquarters of the Egyptian Engineers Syndicate in Cairo.
According to the memorandum, a technical committee will be formed for rapid intervention in cases of buildings in Syria damaged by the recent devastating earthquake that hit Syria and Turkey. Both syndicates will hold lectures where senior Egyptian construction engineers and experts in the field will speak, to convey their expertise to Syrian engineers.
The Egyptian syndicate was represented by its president Tarek al-Nabarawy, and the Syrian syndicate by a delegation that included engineers Hany Azizi and Tarek al-Masry.
According to the Egyptian Engineers Syndicate, the committee will include consultant engineers and university professors who have vast experience and high competency in dealing with buildings that need reinforcement because of damage by earthquake. The committee will specifically focus on restoring and fortifying archaeological and historical monuments and buildings, also buildings with special character that were exposed to the earthquake in the ancient city of Aleppo.
The committee will conduct field visits to the sites and buildings destroyed or damaged, and will prepare technical reports detailing the building conditions, assessing damages, and suggesting solutions for treatment. The committee will also offer technical advice to residents living in their homes to ensure their safety and security.
Following the signing of the memorandum of cooperation, the president of the Egyptian syndicate stressed the Egyptian Engineers Syndicate solidarity with its Syrian counterpart in mitigating the aftereffects of the devastating earthquake.
For their part, the delegation of the Syrian Engineers Syndicate expressed their gratitude to the Egyptian State, people and Engineers Syndicate for their help and support during the hard times.
