In the wake of the political turmoil in Sudan, the Coptic Orthodox Church in Khartoum held prayers today 25 October for the sake of Sudan. The Church prayed for God’s intervention, “entrusting Sudan to the Lord who always chooses the good.”
Military General Abdel-Fattah al-Burhan had announced earlier today the dismissal of the government of Prime Minister Abdallah Hamdok and a national state of emergency; he said the military would be taking control of the State until a new government could be formed. General Burhan’s forces arrested this morning the PM as well as other civilian authorities.
On its part, the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stressed the importance of achieving stability and security for the Sudanese people. The Foreign Ministry said it is important to handle the current challenges in a way that would guarantee the safety of the country; it called on all Sudanese parties to uphold the supreme interests of the country and the national consensus, and to commit to self-restraint.
