Anba David, Bishop of New York and New England signed on 21 March the preliminary purchase contract for a new Coptic Orthodox monastery in Upstate New York. The new monastery will be consecrated in the name of the Holy Virgin and Pope Kyrillos VI.
The signing took place following a celebration of Holy Mass by Anba David on the feast day of Saint Bishoy Kamel at the new church of Saint Yustus al-Antouny and Saint Bishoy Kamel, in Staten Island, New York. A large number of the clergy and congregation of New York and New England as well as New Jersey attended the Mass.
The monks of the Anba Pola Monastery, who serve in the diocese of New York and New England, will live at the new monastery once the final contract is signed and the ownership transfer procedures in the name of the Coptic Church are completed.
