Pope Tawadros has been ordered by doctors to rest, on account of suffering inflammation of the seventh cranial nerve.
A statement issued by the Coptic Orthodox Church on Sunday 4 June read:
“Pope Tawadros II celebrated Mass of the Pentecost this morning at Ikingi Maryut [some 34 km southwest Alexandria]. Following Mass, the Pope had an unexpected health problem. Thorough medical examination revealed that he suffered a mild inflammation in the seventh cranial nerve. The doctors recommended rest, in addition to medication and physiotherapy.
“Accordingly, any pastoral meetings or activities that had been scheduled during the upcoming few days will be cancelled, but pre-planned personal meetings will take place as originally scheduled.
“We ask the Lord for a speedy recovery and full health to our pastor and father the Pope, through the intercession of the Holy Virgin, our fathers the apostles, and all the saints.”
