Cairo Opera House is launching this year’s summer season, known as the Summer Festival 2023, in July at both its Cairo and Alexandria venues; the Alexandria venue was originally Sayed Darwish Theatre and is now known as Alexandria Opera House.
The festival includes 20 concerts in seven Cairo theatres: the Cairo Opera Houses’ Main Hall and Open theatre; the al-Gomhouriya Theatre; and the Arab Music Institute Theatre; also at Alexandria’s Sayed Darwish Theatre and Roman Theatre; and Damanhour Opera House.
Khaled Dagher, head of the Cairo Opera House, said that the activities include performances by veteran and promising performers, bands, and groups.
The Cairo Opera House’s Main Hall will celebrate the New Hijra Year on 18 July with a concert of religious. It will also mark the anniversary of the July 23rd 1952 Revolution, and will host the students of the Talent Development Centre.
The Open Theatre hold evening performances for the Capital’s Studio ensemble which belongs to Helwan University’s Faculty of Music Education; the Munib Heritage Ensemble; harpist Manal Mohyeddin, also the groups of the widely-loved veteran singers Ali Al-Haggar and Mai Kamal; and others.
As to Gomhouriya Theatre in central Cairo, it will be presenting among its performances two for Bolivia Choir and Orchestra; and another two for the Modern Theatrical Dance Group.
Alexandria’s Sayed Darwish Theatre and Roman Theatre will present Arabic music concerts, as well as performances of string instruments and popular stars including Medhat Saleh and Nesma Mahgoub.
In addition, preparations are ongoing for the 31st edition of the Saladdin Citadel Festival for Music and Singing. The citadel goes back to the 12th century, and the Festival is one of the oldest festivals among those held by the Cairo Opera House; enjoys wide attendance especially by the locals in the neighborhood.
“This year’s edition will be held over two weeks from 17 to 31 August,” Mr Dagher noted. It will include more than 30 concerts by various singers and music bands.
