Minister of Health Hala Zayed has announced that the first shipment of the single-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine arrived at Cairo International Airport in the early hours of 9 August.
The shipment included 261,600 doses of the vaccine, Ms Zayed said, asserting that other shipments will be arriving in the near future.
The step, which comes in cooperation with the African Union, is in line with the Egypt’s plan to expand and diversify its vaccines supply.
Health Ministry Spokesperson Khaled Megahed said the single-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine shipment recently received will undergo tests at the the Egyptian Drug Authority (EDA), following which it will be allocated to Egyptians planning to travel. Vaccination is through the Ministry of Health which operates 126 centres nationwide for travellers, and is free of charge, he added.
