During the first 12 hours on launching the new Ministry of Health website www.egcovac.mohp.gov.eg on 28 February 2021 for individuals to register their desire to take the coronavirus vaccine, 45,429 Egyptians eligible to receive the vaccine had signed in.
The website was launched within the State’s plan to provide the coronavirus vaccine free of charge to Egyptians. Vaccination had already started for medical staff in Egypt on 24 January 2021, with the Chinese vaccine Sinopharm.
According to Dr Khaled Megahed, spokesperson of the Health Ministry, the website automatically gives priority to eligible groups according to the input data: age, chronic diseases and health condition, as well as workers in the medical field.
Among those who already registered: 6,156 belong to the medical sector; 32,172 suffer from chronic diseases, and 6,642 are elderly.
“For those who cannot register on the website,” Dr Megahed noted, “an office has been allocated in each health unit and hospital nationwide to register applicants for vaccination.”
