The Egyptian Ministry of education has signed a protocol of cooperation with a number of private companies with the aim of enhancing the skills of technical education students to qualify them for better jobs, and reduce unemployment. The protocol comes within the context of the “Egypt Makers” initiative, and carries the motto “Learn, improve, work”.
Minister of Education and Technical Education Tarek Shawki signed the protocol on behalf of the government, in attendance of Ibrahim Mahlab, President’s Assistant for National and Strategic Projects; Muhammad Said al-Assar, State Minister of Military Production; Muhammad Shaker, Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy; and Tare Kabil, Minister of Trade and Industry.
Dr Shawky said that the ministry, in collaboration with the private sector, seeks to enhance the quality of technical education to build a strong industrial sector able to achieve Egypt’s 2030 vision in line with international quality standards and market needs.
Among the private sector partners signing the protocol were al-Arabi School for Applied Technology, which is affiliated to al-Arabi industrial firm; the School for Applied Hotel Technology, run by Americana Company and the NGO Masr al-Kheir; Swedi Technical Schools affiliated to al-Swedi Company; and the Applied Technology School of the Talaat Mustafa Group.
The private sector partners said there would be good opportunity for placements at their firms for graduates.
The Ministry of Education and Technical Education has also been cooperating with international partners to train technical schoolteachers and students, remodel curricula, and provide schools with modern technological equipment and learning solutions. Among the partners were USAID, the French government, Siemens Company and Germany’s Development Cooperation Agency (GIZ).
