The most recent figures announced by Egypt’s Foreign Ministry regarding Egyptian nationals evacuated from Sudan indicate that 6399 were returned to Egypt by 28 April. On that day, 454 were evacuated by land routes, and 618 were airlifted in four flights, a total of 1072. The total flights airlifting Egyptians home since the Sudan fighting erupted on 15 April amounted to 27 sorties, the Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ahmed Abu-Zeid said.
Official figures had declared that some 10,000 Egyptians had been residing, working or studying in Sudan before the fighting.
Mr Abu-Zeid said that, by 27 April, Egyptian efforts towards facilitating the crossing of those displaced from Sudan led to the crossing of more than 16,000 non-Egyptians into Egypt. He explained that the number of crossing Sudanese nationals exceeded 14,000, and others crossing into Egypt reached amounted to 2,000 nationals of 50 countries and six international organisations.
On 26 April, the Foreign Ministry had announced that the Egyptian Diplomatic mission has relocated in Khartoum, owing to escalating threats and security risks.
