A secured room designated for women victims of violence has been installed for the first time in Egypt, at the East Alexandria Court. It was opened by Alexandria Governor, Mohamed al-Sherif.
The opening was attended by senior officials in the justice, human rights, women and children affairs fields; also by Cristina Albertin, Regional Representative for the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in the Middle East and North Africa (ROMENA).
During the opening, Governor Sherif listened to a detailed explanation of the working mechanism inside the room which is designed according to international fair justice standards, and would contribute significantly to promote justice in the coming period.
The design enables a witness to give her testimony easily and safely, the room is equipped with state-of-the-art technical communication devices according to international standards. It provides a safe space that ensures the victim remains away from any negative impact during a court hearing, preventing any causes of harm or shock, and ensuring a witness is exposed to no threats.
