On his recent official visit to Egypt Italy’s president Giorgio Napolitano, joined with his wife, opened a laboratory for restoring documents and rare books at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina. Italy had been instrumental in setting up the laboratory. He also visited a photography exhibition of the 19th and 20th century Alexandria buildings designed by Italian architects.
Mr and Mrs Napolitano also paid tribute to the Italian soldiers who died during the Alamein Battle in WWII and are buried in the Italian cemetery at Alamein on Egypt’s North Coast.
