To celebrate the fifth International Day of Yoga (IDY), the Indian Embassy in Egypt is holding a number of events today, 23 June, in the city of Minya, some 250km south of Cairo.
The Embassy has been celebrating IDY in Egypt since 2015, through various events in Cairo and other cities in Egypt.
Taking part in today’s events in Minya are
Misr Public Library; Minya Cultural Centre; Minya University’s Faculty of Physical Education; Minya Jesuit Association; and the local administrations for youth, sports, education, and security.
Minya Governor, Qassem Hussein, is joining India’s Ambassador to Cairo, Rahul Kulshreshth in opening the celebrations in Minya Sporting Club.
Yoga has been accepted as an effective practice for a healthy lifestyle across the globe. In 2014, the United Nations declared 21 June the International Day of Yoga. This has helped the people in the world to come together and celebrate and experience the happiness of this ancient practice.
