Today, 17 March, the Coptic Orthodox Church commemorates Pope Shenouda III who was Pope of Alexandria and Patriarch of the See of St Mark from November 1971 to March 2012.
Pope Shenouda is widely loved by Copts, and Muslims too, in Egypt, and is reverred as a modern-day saint. The Church marks his fourth death anniversary today holding Holy Mass in his honour in churches all over Egypt.
A special commemoration is held for him at his shrine in the Western Desert monastery of Anba Bishoi where Pope Tawadros presides over Holy Mass.
