Egypt’s Ministry of Health and Population has sent a medical convoy to Juba in South Sudan. According to Health Ministry spokesperson Khaled Megahed, the convoy includes specialists in ophthalmology and urinary fistula, as requested by the Sudanese health authorities. The Egyptian doctors have already performed a number of surgeries, with others scheduled within the coming few days.
Workshops were held in which Egyptian and Sudanese doctors participated, focusing on urinary tract medical problems.
First Lady of South Sudan, Mary Ayen, paid a visit to the Egyptian medical team and praised their dedicated efforts to help treat their Sudanese brothers and support medical care in South Sudan.
South Sudan’s Minister of Health asked for Egypt’s support to operate the kidney dialysis unit presented by Egypt to the Sudanese people, and to provide training for the medical staff working on it. He also referred to the importance of re-coordinating the protocol of mutual cooperation between the two countries in the fields of health and medicine, in order to make Egyptian-produced medicines available to South Sudan people.
