The Executive Board of UNESCO decided at the opening of its general session on 9 October 2023 at its headquarters in Paris to choose Ambassador Alaa Youssef, Egypt’s Ambassador to France and Permanent Delegate to UNESCO, as the Chairman of the Committee of the Foreign Relations and Programme.
The committee will be responsible for considering a number of important issues related to UNESCO’s initiatives and activities in various fields: cultural, scientific, educational, and artistic, regionally and globally, as well as reviewing the national initiatives and decision projects submitted by member countries during the current session of the UNESCO Executive Board.
Choosing Ambassador Alaa Youssef came by majority of the 58 countries of the UNESCO Executive Board, and was widely welcomed by delegations of those countries.
