The Arabic version of the book Gandhi’s Outstanding Leadership by former ambassador P A Nazareth, India’s former ambassador to Cairo, has been launched in Cairo at a ceremony held in the Maulana Azad Indian cultural centre in Cairo. India’s current ambassador Navdeep Suri said that although hundreds of books have been written about Gandhi, Nazareth chose to focus on the impact of Gandhi on countries of the world. These included Egypt, Palestine and South Africa.
“In my book I wished to show the impact of Gandhi on the world because this is apparent in regions as far apart as Chile, Bolivia, and Egypt,” Nazareth said. “I wanted to compare Gandhi’s qualities and leadership to all modern leaders since the French Revolution,” he added.
The book, an examination of the leadership qualities of Mahatma Gandhi, was released by the Indian Embassy in Cairo.
Attanding the ceremony were Egyptian Culture Minister Gaber Asfour, former Secretary General of the Arab League Amr Moussa and prominent Egyptian and Indian public figured.
The book has already been translated into 18 languages including Spanish, Portuguese, Mandarin, Korean, Bahasa Indonesia as well as ten Indian languages. Arabic is the eighteenth language.
“Egypt was chosen to host the release of the Arabic version because Egypt is the most important country in the Arab region and also because I served for three years as ambassador here,” Nazareth said.
