After five years of discontinued music activities, the Roman amphitheatre in Alexandria will again host the summer music festival of the Cairo Opera House. The turbulence that engulfed Egypt in the wake of the 2011 Arab Spring had made open air musical shows a rather unsafe activity, and the annual summer shows had thus been halted.
This year, however, audiences will be treated to musical performances by some of Egypt’s top performers and ensembles at the Roman amphitheatre from 8 – 14 August.
The musical festival is sponsored by Culture Minister Helmy al-Namnam and Ines Abdel-Dayem, director of the Cairo Opera house.
