Egyptian adventurer Omar Hegazy who lost a leg in an accident some three years ago, managed to complete the journey from Taba to Cairo, ending up at the Giza Pyramid last Friday 30 November. He had covered 415km on bicycle in 10 days. On hand to receive him was Giza Governor Ahmed Rashed; together with Minister of Local Development, Mahmoud Sharawi; Minister of Youth and Sports, Ashraf Sobhy; Minister of Education, Tarek Shawki; Minister of Tourism, Rania al-Mashat, and Minister of Antiquities, Khaled al-Anani.
Governor Rashed warmly described Hegazy as a real champion. “This is not Hegazy’s first feat,” he said. “He managed to swim through the Gulf of Aqaba from Aqaba in Jordan to Egypt’s Taba, some 30.5 nautical miles, in 8 hours.”
