The 10th edition of the Annual Photography Competition was held under the theme “Favourite Destinations in Egypt”. It witnessed participation from 143 individuals who submitted more than 400 photos from various parts of the country.
“I am delighted to see the high number of photos submitted under this theme, and the artistic merit and quality of these pictures, which show the beauty and diversity of Egypt. These wonderful pictures surely encourage to visit ‘Umm al-Dunia Masr’ and enjoy its marvels,’ said Ambassador Ivan Surkoš, Head of EU Delegation to Egypt.
Ambassador Surkoš awarded the first winner Farid Mahmoud Abdeen, an upgraded lens compatible with his camera. The second-place winner, Ahmed Badr Abdel Azim, received a lighting kit; while the third, Mostafa Bashar El Shorbagy, was awarded a flash compatible with his camera. The top 30 photographers received certificates and a catalogue featuring their work. The top 12 photos were printed in a desk calendar for 2018 issued by the EU Delegation.
The top 30 photos in the competition, including those of the winners, are on exhibit in Townhouse Gallery, Cairo, until Wednesday 17 January.
Through this competition, the EU Delegation promotes and stimulates creativity among amateur photographers in Egypt, and gives them an opportunity to showcase their work to a wider audience.
Over the years, the theme of the competition has varied from “Life in a Picture” and “Visions of a Shared Heritage” to “Job Creativity of Egyptians and Youth”. The theme of 2017, “Favourite Destinations in Egypt”, was selected through a vote on the EU Delegation Facebook page.
